newwave pictures makes films and programmes, creates promos and scripts, writes books, and both covers and stages live performance. We have made TV programmes for over 20 years for broadcasters all over the world including BBC, ITV, C4, History, PBS, Discovery, NHK, TF1 and have built up some 3000 hours of archive in arts, factual and sports programming.
The company originally drews its’ inspiration from the film makers and the musicians who created the real new waves. We have been lucky enough to have worked with some of those great innovators such as Eric Clapton, Paul McCartney, AIR, The Damned, The Stranglers , Squeeze, 10cc , Sophie Ellis Bextor, The Feeling , Mick Jagger, Cara Dillon, Martin Simpson, Kevin Ayers, Pink Floyd, and UB40 , and have won or been nominated for awards ranging from BAFTA’s through Oscars via the New York Film Festival, Columbus and New Delhi awards. We have been privileged to work with some great artists, performers and personalities such as Terry Frost, Theatre du Soleil, Jackie Mason, Milos Forman, Brian Wilson, Steve Miller, the Havanna dance group of Cuba, Keith Richards and Francis Coppola and have always stressed the collaborative nature of what we do. Ask any artist who has worked with New Wave and they will tell you that they have a greater say and control over their project than they ever had before.
Recently we made the 90 minute film for BBC TV: Glyndebourne the Inside History, and the six part The Story of London for History Channel. We also produced in October six live sessions for the BBC from Charleston Farmhouse. We have also produced a book about London Underground, and a book and 4 part TV series The Sound of the Sixties featuring music from that period. Last month we added a second series The Sounds of the Seventies to go with it. We have co-produced a feature length factual programme about Tony Benn and made two documentaries for the World Cup about Johan Cruyff and Maradona.
We have just signed up to make a feature length History of the Marquee film, trawling those annals of pop, jazz and blues history and will back that up with a live show, CD via Universal and radio series. This is due to be broadcast in January 2017.
